Nala Kathleen attended the University of Louisville from 2013 until 2019 pursuing a Bachelors Degree in Classical Vocal Performance. Her main focus while studying was equal parts the study of performance across all mediums as well as how to apply healthy vocal production across all genres of music.

During her undergraduate studies, she studied Solo Classical Performance (Art Song); Classical Chamber Music (University Chorus, Collegiate Chorale, Cardinal Singers); Opera Theatre (Principle roles in Dido and Aeneas (2019) & The Tenderland (2017), and Supporting Cast Roles in Down in the Valley (2018), Riders to the Sea (2016)); Featured Soloist for the Louisville Jazz Band(2014-2019), Featured Vocalist in University of Louisville Jazz Combos such as the Brazilian Ensemble, Featured Soloist for the Louisville New Music Festival in 2019 with Orchestra Enigmatic .

Additionally, while cultivating the tailored vocal colors needed to perform Art Song, Opera, Chamber Choral Music, as well as front Big Bands in the university setting, Nala also pursued her career as a Commercial Artist. She started a local band(January 2017-December, 2018), Briar Rose, and performed at venues such as Nouvelle Winery, Jimmy Can’t Dance, The Red Herring on Frankford, and Angels Envy. Her band was even featured on the Big Four Stage in December of 2018.

After completing her time at U of L in 2019, Nala traveled overseas with the Cardinal Singers as a member and featured soloist; performing in Southeast Asia, until returning to the midwest. Once back in America, Nala joined chamber choirs, sang for church services, was a featured soloist for the Dubuque Symphony Orchestra, as well as continued booking shows as a solo artist.

After returning to Louisville in March of 2019, she began teaching voice with the Louisville School of Rock where she discovered a passion for teaching voice! After relocating to Redding, California, Nala opened her own private vocal studio in Redding, California, where she is currently accepting new students.

When Nala isn’t teaching, she is performing as an Independent Artist- managing her own Jazz Ensemble and collaborating with the Simpson Symphonic choir and North State Symphony.
